Our Social Impact
At Aid the Needy Kenya (ATN-K), we don't just measure our success by the number of projects we launch, but by the tangible, lasting transformation in the lives of the people we serve. Over the past fifteen years, our multi-sectoral approach has moved communities from vulnerability to long-term resilience.
By partnering with local communities, international donors, and corporate pioneers, we turn grassroots trust into measurable human impact.
Key Impact Highlights
💧 Clean Water & Sanitation (WASH)
5,090+ Lives Transformed: Our landmark partnership with Water Mission established a solar-powered borehole system in Atela Location, Kabondo, providing clean, safe water to thousands of residents daily.
Institutional Connectivity: Connected three local schools—including Atela Primary School—and surrounding villages directly to a safe water supply network, dramatically reducing waterborne illnesses among children.
Aquifer Preservation: Successfully secured 7 vital water aquifers, designing separate usage infrastructure for human consumption and cattle to permanently eliminate cross-contamination.
☀️ Climate-Smart Livelihoods & Food Security
Economic Diversification: Partnered with the US Embassy in Kenya to equip women’s self-help groups in Karabondi, Rachuonyo North, with solar irrigation kits, allowing families to build sustainable income lines separate from the declining fish economy.
Curbing Post-Harvest Losses: Developed cold storage preservation infrastructure across 7 beaches along the lakefront, directly boosting the shelf-life of fisheries and protecting the revenues of local fisherfolk.
Urban Waste Innovation: Launched a pioneering circular economy initiative in Oyugis town, turning municipal solid waste management challenges into local economic and agricultural opportunities.
🖥️ Digital Literacy & Renewable Energy
Solarizing Healthcare: Partnered with Belgian and Dutch allies to install off-grid solar power systems across two health facilities (including Apida Community Hospital in Kendu Bay) and a specialized special needs school, guaranteeing uninterrupted medical and care services.
Bridging the Digital Divide: Fully equipped computer laboratories and high-speed internet networks at several regional institutions, including Nyabondo Girls Boarding Primary School, St. Martin Deporres Special School, Jwelu Vocational School, and Ringa Girls High School.
Driven by Grassroots Trust and Synergy
Our impact is sustained by a deep programmatic focus that ensures every technology and system we introduce to our communities is tailored to adapt perfectly to real-world human behavior.

Because we are deeply embedded in the grassroots fabric of the Lake Victoria Basin, we work side-by-side with village health committees, water user groups, and local schools to ensure that developments are locally owned and built to last.
📈 Our Ongoing Commitment
We believe in strict accountability and participatory development. Every project we undertake includes community-defined success indicators, meaning the families we serve are the ultimate judges of our impact. We are committed to leaving no one behind in the Lake Victoria Basin.
